David Robinson

David’s path into Design and Manufacture was sparked by the guidance of his Craft and Design teacher, who recognised his natural talent and unwavering attention to detail. That early encouragement laid the foundation for a strong work ethic, which continues to shine through in his creations. His dedication was rewarded in 2023 with a CRAFTEX award and a Certificate of Merit from Glasgow Trades House celebrating his craftsmanship and creative vision.
David remains committed to evolving his skills and producing bespoke, beautifully crafted furniture. Each piece is designed to bring character and elegance into the home, reflecting his passion for quality and timeless design.

City of Glasgow College
My journey into furniture making began when I discovered the course at the City of Glasgow College, by chance or perhaps fate. That discovery opened up a completely new and fulfilling path. Surrounded by inspiring tutors and like-minded peers, I developed hands-on skills, lasting friendships, and a deep appreciation for natural materials and the beauty of well-crafted things. I now work at John Galvin Design, creating bespoke display boxes for some of Scotland’s most prestigious luxury whiskies, using the beautiful native wood our country has to offer. I feel incredibly lucky to be doing what I love every day.

I have been studying at Anniesland college for 2 years and have so far made two guitars. I play a handful of different instruments, but I have a passion for those in the strings family. I've found it to be a very rewarding experience, even amongst all the hard work and failures.
I am now approaching my final year of the course where I will be building a 5-string banjo. This is where my passion ultimately lies as it is my favourite instrument to play. It is connected to the music I listen to and to the people I play music with.

I started learning to build guitars in 2022, when I was 15 years old and started designing the “Bracken” in 2023 when I was 16 years old. Now at 18, I have completed two guitars of this model. My first was with a natural finish and had no cutaway, but I decided to challenge myself with this one and added a cutaway and applied a sunburst finish.

I began learning about furniture making at City of Oxford college, which I attended between 2018 and 2019. This gave me a foundation in the principles of woodworking. I then moved to North Wales and started working as a traditional timber framer and joiner, which I continued until 2023. During my time in Wales, I worked on everything from timber frames to bespoke furniture pieces. I then moved to Glasgow, to attend a HND programme at City of Glasgow College studying furniture Craftsmanship. This course allowed me to focus on refining my skills by building a variety of challenging furniture pieces.
I am now self employed, working as a joiner and furniture maker".

I have always enjoyed hands-on learning, completing courses in makeup, photography, cake decoration and baking, and construction. A highlight for me was discovering a love for furniture making, where I created a baby chaise, a timber frame table and a cabinet and was proud to win an award for my table.
I am now studying accounting because I enjoy maths and in the future I hope to combine my creativity with my financial skills to run my own business.
