The Incorporation of Wrights in Glasgow is a charity registered in Scotland. Charity number: SCO10016.
The Wrights are continuing a long tradition of giving. We help people to develop skills and increase their life chances, and we support those most in need. We celebrate fine artistry and craftsmanship – very fitting in a city that was at the heart of the Arts and Crafts movement and that is now enjoying a cultural renaissance.
The Wrights work in partnership with like-minded organisations around the country, including fellow charities, guilds and London Livery Companies. Through the Trades House of Glasgow, a separate registered charity (Charity number: SC040548), we collaborate with our fellow Incorporated Trades to help the people of Glasgow.
Examples of our workFrom classical guitars to contemporary furniture, the work of Glasgow’s students is among the best in the world. Our Wrights’ awards recognise excellence and the development of much sought-after practical and professional skills, whether they are centuries-old conservation techniques or carpentry for a modern construction project.
Winning with Wood is our competition for Glasgow woodworking charities and social enterprises. They make an exhibit for public display – one that conveys their charitable aims as well as their craftsmanship. They show their work at the Trades House Craftex exhibition, reaping benefits for the charity and its team of makers.
Working with the Scottish Glass Society, the Wrights developed a project to create a magnificent series of stained glass windows at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, to celebrate Glasgow’s tradespeople and Incorporated Trades. Students at City of Glasgow College are designing and making the windows. The first, for the Wrights, was unveiled in 2018.
If you have a project that would benefit from our support, we would be delighted to hear from you – please contact us.
